3-way floor standing speaker
Be surprised by Kanta, highly original speakers that will reconnect you with your music. Entirely dedicated to acoustic performance and with a resolutely bewitching aesthetic: that, in a nutshell, is the Kanta DNA! It took three years of research and development to create this model, Kanta No. 2, the first in the range. With their new materials and effectiveness-focused design that give them their powerful identity, they come straight from our engineers' hearts.
Focal offers a hitherto unknown amalgamation of technologies: the marriage of Beryllium, in the latest generation IAL3 tweeter, with Flax, for the midrange and bass drivers. The result is precise, detailed sound brimming with warmth and musicality. This is the start of a new era for those who love sound...
For the very first time, a Flax sandwich cone speaker has been combined with a Beryllium tweeter. Flax is the answer to the low mass/rigidity/damping equation, leading to sound clarity and precision. This unique Flax/Beryllium combination gives music incredible warmth and musicality. Made in France, this patented flax cone has already proven itself in Focal home and in-car speakers. The midrange speaker uses TMD (Tuned Mass Damping) suspension, and every Kanta speaker is also equipped with an NIC (Neutral Inductance Circuit) motor, which stabilises the magnetic field for perfectly defined sound and better controlled bass.
Everything is designed and made to create acoustic softness and warmth: the density and stiffness of the front panel and cabinet materials, softened angles and double port vents. The front panel is made of a new material to suit the acoustic parameters. It is moulded in one piece from High Density Polymer (HDP). This material has excellent performance: it is 70% denser than MDF, 15% stiffer and provides 25% more damping. The one-piece front panel totally eliminates any sound diffraction. Kanta incorporates Power Flow technology with two vents, on the front and rear faces, to limit bass compression.
Focal's research is geared towards reducing distortion in every register. With Kanta, the treble register is reproduced by a new pure Beryllium tweeter. This IAL3 tweeter combines the IAL (Infinite Acoustic Loading) and IHL (Infinite Horn Loading) tweeters features, both of which help with the absorption of waves, thus lowering the tweeter frequency.
Our engineers have revisited their choice of ‘Focus Time’, which corrects speaker alignment, making them the same distance from the ear. The cabinet is made in one-piece integrally moulded wood. The Zamac base also brings out masses of character. With its spikes and cups, the base provides great stability from a very small footprint. Final details: the glass-covered top and magnetic grilles. When these are removed, they reveal the speakers' flax cones, the final design touch that gives Kanta its unique look.
The loudspeakers are offered with a matte front panel combined with a body in Black High Gloss, White High Gloss, Walnut High Gloss or Matte Walnut, providing a broad choice of contemporary combinations. The sophisticated, matte finish absorbs light instead of reflecting it, which enhances the colours.
Acoustic System Designer
Absolutely fantastic sounding speakers and well worth the money I paid for them. Match my Naim Uniti Nova perfectly.
I am so happy the sound is incredible only playd a coppel of records
Nice one, like the sound and design. Paired with supernait 3
Das Design und der Klang ist einfach Top.
I bought these from a Quebec dealer about 3 months ago. They sounded superlative right out of the box but now they are beyond excellent. I heard for years that Focal speakers are bright. Not true ! They are beautifully neutral with realistic bass and warm, rich mid tones.
Mine are paired with a Hegel H390. I know Focal likes customers to pair with Naim but, honestly the Hegel is the perfect partner. So rich and silky with its perfect timing.
I also have two REL T7/x subs that only enrich the music.
Fantastic out of the box - all Focal described and more. Soundstage, imaging, bass and the beryllium highs are picturesque
THE BEST SPEAKER I’VE EVER LISTENED TO IN MY 63 YEARS! Absolute goose-bumps when I first listened to them. High frequencies around cymbals/percussion are dead-on.
The clarity and reveal the Beryllium Tweeter provides lets me hear things I've never heard before and everything else is now effortlessly there.
Even so pairing the Kanta 2's with a Naim Unity Nova at first had me worried if the Naim has enough "juice" to drive the large floorstanders, don't worry - this is in fact a dream combination. Once you're used to the Beryllium tweeter you can't ever imagine going back...its like something is missing in your heart and soul. Just make sure you take delivery with a free following day or take a day off. Your're going to spend all night discovering your music all over again. Even songs from singers that came across as boring before are now a joy to listen to, amazing !
I only wish I would've made the purchase earlier...The Kanta 2's are well worth their money...don't worry about diminishing returns, not with these ! They're worth every cent !
Beautiful speaker, sounds sublime are the Kanta 2’s
Have had mine for about 6 weeks, out of the box they need a long break in till the tweeter settles down, about 50-100 hours, after that the kanta is quite softly spoken, easily the gentlest beryllium tweeter to date that initial hardness turns into a very soft and easy on the ears sound after those initial hours, even behind bright equipment with a nasty SSS/TTT heavy recordings are tamed. The tweeter becomes invisible.
The entire spektrum is very even and you can’t associate any part with a particular driver during playback. They are somewhat light on bass which makes them a candidate when the only option is hard against the wall. Some of that lightweight bass however can be associated to how fast the overall bass presentation is, there is very little decay with bass notes following the recording with seemingly impossible precision.
The lighter bass should not be construed as the sound being dry, in fact it’s very warm. Kantas bass presentation is very matter of fact, if it’s quiet it’ll be quiet, if it’s loud it’ll be loud.
Kanta 2 seems to be forgiving of your equipment, modest equipment will be fine and an ideal candidate as home cinema mains that double stereo duty’s off a typical AV amplifier (assuming your amp has a true signal unfiltered stereo mode).
Overall I’m very happy with mine, coming from utopia be in car, these where the lowest I heard in the focal line that gave me a similar experience, and the furniture quality cabinet helped get cost of them over the line with my other half.
Just received and unpacked. Really nice and secure packaging. Will be listening soon.
I truly have no words for these speakers. The sound, the details are really fantastic. I have combined them with the Naim Unity Nova so I really believe that these two are the best married couple ever
These are absolutely gorgeous to look at, touch, and listen to speakers. I paired them with Naim Uniti Nova and they do sing great. Still in search of the right speaker cable for the system. Light, precise, agile sound with infinite smoothness and treble extension.
Amazing. Not yet run in and they exceed my expectations. Airy, punchy and the bass is superb. Very pleased with them.
Great sounding speakers
I probably bought the last new yellow pair in the world 6 month ago. Warm, detailed, sounds larger than its actual size. I use them with a Focal sub and Aperion Audio AMT super tweeters, to add more weight and more air. Amplifier ASR Emitter Exclusive I Battery. For the moment, my forever system.
Surprised bass, soft midrange and excellent treble.
I'm blessed to own Kanta No 2's, Sopra No 3's and the Sopra center. The Kantas are in our family room where our little one plays. Sopras are in their own room in a hybrid 2 ch and 7.1 configuration. Lol
The Kantas are very spacious and detailed. The bass is lightning FAST, accurate, and tight. You can hear the drummer's and drum's characteristics from the time the drum is struck until the end. Soundstage is deep if you place them away from the front wall, but if you can't place them in the middle of the room, no worries. The music never sounds compressed. These truly don't miss anything and they are not fatiguing or analytical. They do take some time to break in, so be patient and don't get set on where they will be. I played with mine many of times until they broke in.
Kanta No 2's literally take you into the recordings no matter what kind of music you listen to. I listen to rock, alternative, adult contemporary, and pop from the 60's,70's, 80's, 90's to present music from London Grammar, Freya Ridings and etc. What I like about these is that they literally take you into the recordings no matter what kind of music you listen to. I'm driving my Kantas with a Hegel Integrated amp.
Focal's Beryllium tweeter is perfectly Integrated. It has its own perfect sound signature. The decay is fast, however, it has a brilliance that can carry multiple notes longer than anything else I have ever heard without a stumble. One could get a sense of this while listening to music with Electric and or Acoustic guitars. It's truly amazing. I've heard other speakers in the same ballpark price wise with Beryllium and they don't come close. It's like the executives decided that their speakers have to have Berylliium.
On another note, I have a little one and I'm glad Focal protects the tweeter from it's hazardous nature by placing a non removable grille on it. No other manufacturer that I personally know of does this and I'm not surprised since Focal manufacturers their own tweeters in a lsesled lab. And no it does not affect the sound. Focal took that grille into account with the design as they do with all aspects of their speakers.
The point Focal has made with Kantas and Sopras is that no matter what music you like, they will impress you, and that's a win when you just want to relax and have fun in this hobby Either way I have fun listening and always leave with a smile and so does my wife who is not an Audiophile :-)
Amazing speakers. A true listening experience. Fantastic build quality and looks beautiful too. Highly recommended.
Finally purchased my dream speakers
Kanta No2 in white and black finish
I'm starting to listen to them now & sound amazing straight out of the box!.
Stunning looking as they sound, the last speakers I ever need!!
I bought my Kanta's a few months ago in combination with the Hegel H390. This is an absolute match made in heaven!
Klingt fantastisch, sehr gute Verarbeitung.
Super klang, starker Bass, feine Höhen.
Sehr ausgewogen.
Ich bin sehr zufrieden.
Excellent speakers ! Best I’ve owned , and I’ve owned plenty ! So much information is coming out of the Kanta ‘s ! It’s glorious !
Love the Sound of this Speakers. Had so much great moments :)
I recently upgraded to these wonderful speakers. They not only look wonderful, but more importantly the sound that is reproduced via my Naim system is absolutely on point. All ranges from the highs to the lows have definition and punch not previously heard before. These are keepers, and whilst my journey in the electronics may not have plateaued, I cannot envisage having to move these beautiful sounding speakers on. A very happy listener.
Die Lautsprecher klingen weltklasse und sehen sehr gut aus, bzw. sehen sehr interessant aus.
Amazing speakers - stunning looks and fabulous sound (which will only improves as the burn-in process goes on). Super happy I still managed to get the Solar Yellow version - they form a truly focal point in any living room (pun intended)...
Effortlessly enjoyable!
BEST SOUNDING SPEAKERS AS COMPARED TO OTHERS WITH A BUGDET OF 16000US
Great finish and sound, but the base should be more like the sopra.
A really brilliant pair of speakers. They have opened up the soundstage - wider and deeper, with much more musicality. They certainly make you want to listen to the music which is very close to being live - the musicians are in the room with you. They go very well with our Naim classic system. They are very well made, look good and the wind-down spikes make levelling so simple.Would highly recommend.
sound great full bodied not harsh at all
Focal has completed my system upgrade,I can now enjoy everyday what brings pleasure to so many!
Exceptional
Excellent sounding speakers and they look wonderful! A big upgrade from the B&W 801's that these are replacing. My friend is so impressed that he is about to purchase the Sopra 2's.
Amazing speakers...musical, non-fatiguing and beautiful to behold. They look better without the grills and perform exceptionally well. Using them with powerful amplifiers - Parasound JC-1 mono blocks.
Very Good speakers , nice Design and incredible Sound !!!
Visually stunning showpieces - otherwise can't say much more as they just arrived! Yet to experience their performance.
great sound with naim uniti star after 150 hours running-in period.
I've owned my Kanta 2's for about a month. Sonically, these are the most accurate and lifelike speakers that I've owned. It's surprising how much bass (and accurate) that comes from a pair of 6.5" drivers. The choice of differentiating materials (glass, wood, zamac alloy, and plastic composite) makes for a very eye-catching cabinet (mine are ivory with walnut).
The Kanta 2's are an incredible speaker. These speakers offer incredibly dynamic sound with captivating sound. These speakers grab your attention providing encompassing sound that is both dynamic and powerful. The creative effort and soul of your favorite artist play through these speakers as if you are getting a private concert with each listening session. Absolutely amazing HIFI product.
Thanks,
A joy to listen to, fantastic audio fidelity and fabulous aesthetics and build quality.
I'm impressed by the performance of this speaker. A new dimension of layers is to be heard in my wellknown cd's. Here's a very happy Kanta owner :-)
Wonderfull immersive sound. My living room now changes to a Jazz club or concert hall. These speakers can sound small and intimate with so much detail, and also have the ability to rock the whole neighbourhood :-) best purchase in a long time!
The best way I can describe the sound is clean and natural, about the next best thing to live. It makes my old B&W speakers sound muddy. The Focal Kanta 2's make a sweet improvement to my listening experience. I give them a high recommendation to anyone.
On par with the sound quality is the appearance and build quality. I really like the gloss finish of my cabinets and face plate. The built in base stand with the adjustable feet is fantastic. It really enhances the leveling and isolation of the speaker. The only suggestion I can offer is a red color option for the face plate, like a Ferrari.
Es ist ein sehr ausgewogener Lautsprecher der optimale Ersatz für meine Focal Expression.
zum Händler gehen und unbedingt anhören!
Verarbeitung jenseits von Gut und Böse, die verschiedenen Ausführungen und Farben machen diesen Lautsprecher für wirklich jeden Stil passend.
Ich habe noch so einen kontrollierten und satten Bass gehört und ein insgesamt rundes Klangbild mit fantastischer Auflösung.
What an awesome speaker. Very clean crisp dynamic sound with beautiful midrange and solid firm low end. It loves a firm grip from the amp (used with Naim 250 but tried with other amps). Immaculate craftsmanship. Great out of the box but improves significantly over month or so.
Incredible speakers. At first I was going to go with the Sopra No.2, but I was afraid of them being too revealing. I decided to go with the Kanta, w/o auditioning, after listening to the Aria 948's. The Kanta gives you the best of both worlds - the beryllium tweeter goes on forever, yet is never fatiguing, and the bass - wow. Currently driving them with a Classe' system: CP-500 preamp, CD-P100 CD player, CA-220 amplifier. Best system I've ever owned.
Amazing sound paired with my Supernait 2 and XD5-XS. Blown away by the mid range clarity. Superb.
Ended up with a shiny white front and black cabinet... wish they would pair some of the matt fronts with the black cabinet, as I think that combo would work better. Had to avoid the walnut cabinet, as it looks like a cheap plastic wrap.
i brought these speakers in in march 2018. i could only set these up in july 09 2018 as i was busy moving to new place. Paired these with Naim Uniti Nova and audio quest rocket 88 speaker cables. OMG what a spear !!!! Wow !!!! very crips and clean .very happy with the purchase.
Goosebumps. This is the only word to explain how I feel when I listen to my Kanta2. Regardless the genre - goosebumps.
Very stylish looks and fine finish. Terrific sound to match - deep bass, well rounded midrange and natural sounding highs provided by the Beryllium tweeter. Currently the Kantas are being driven by my old Quad 44 pre-amp coupled with a BGW Systems model 100B power amplifier. Though these old amps drive the speakers very well, stereo imaging and soundstage is not very well defined. Shall upgrade the amps and source in the near future. Many thanks for a fine product, keep it up.
beautiful sounding and beautiful looking. excited to see what else comes out in the kanta line up
I went to The Kimmel Center yesterday to hear The Philadelphia Symphony perform Shostakovich’s Symphony No.7...I had box seats right off the stage! Amazing performance that nearly had me in tears. This morning I played my SACD version of the No.7 on my system and I could hardly believe my ears....the Focal Kanta No.2’s delivered a stunningly lifelike recreation of my experience at the Kimmel!! From the lower octave fundamentals to the sweet open pristine highs...all of it was there and in correct proportion. Dynamics were completely realistic, plucked strings were spot on and the open panoramic vista of the orchestra was laid out in all it’s grandeur. The delicacy and the power of the full orchestra was delivered in full measure, with expression, warmth and most of all...emotion. The Kanta No.2’s are very special indeed and may just be one of the most musically “right” speaker systems produced today. Truly remarkable!! Bravo Focal
Perhaps there are other music lovers who have longed for such a musical transducer to be created? For me, it has been a frustratingly long and expensive road. This was my last attempt to achieve my goal of bringing the Symphony to my listening room...at long last may I bask in the musical sonority of my choosing!
Great!
I purchased a pair of Kanta No 2’s and married them with a Hegel 360 integrated amplifier and an Oppo 205 universal disc player. Without performing any room correction the stereo imaging in my less than ideal room and is mind blowing. I swear Bob Dylan, Adele and Mark Knopfler are right in front of me in my home.
So happy with my purchase! Great performance and a stunning work of art!
Purchased a pair of Black Lacquer - Black High Gloss speaker.
To be honest I am very disappointed with the finish - there is noticeable uneven areas in the lacquer, assume showing the uneven sanding of the wood underneath?
The demo pair of Ivory Mat - Walnut Mat had a much better finish
I have no complaints regarding the sonic performance, but am disappointed that this left the Focal factory considering this is one of the higher level speakers.
