LEATHER IN THE LIMELIGHT



Focal Crafts presents the “Utopia Shoemakers Finish” collection.

Grande Utopia, Stella, Maestro, Scala, Diva… Thirteen pairs of Utopia loudspeakers are adorned with a patinated leather finish. These unique pieces are each accompanied by two nesting tables and a Bathys hi-fi headphone in a harmonious blend of colours and materials.

THE ART OF PATINA

From shoemaking to leather patina and glazing, the craft of the shoemaker is multifaceted. Patina involves applying natural creams and pigments to leather to create subtle transparencies and varied tones, echoing the passing of time. By adopting this art, we bring life to the leather and offer an authentic signature to the loudspeakers — each one like an individual canvas in a collection of thirteen.

MASTERY AT EVERY STAGE

Each piece is handcrafted with precision and care. The application of nourishing, pigmented cream creates colour gradients — from light to dark — enhanced by the artisan’s touch. The colour is then fixed, and the final glazing stages elevate the finish. Several drying phases are required; patina and patience go hand in hand.

A TRULY UNIQUE SET

A set of two nesting tables and a pair of Bathys wireless hi-fi headphones accompany the loudspeakers in this Opus. Crafted in our cabinetry and production workshops, these exceptional pieces are also dressed in patinated leather, forming a perfectly balanced aesthetic ensemble. The set embodies the elegance of material, the finesse of French craftsmanship.

MATERIAL AS THE CENTREPIECE

The leather used is semi-aniline cowhide. Hand-worked and manually applied to the loudspeakers, it offers a natural, supple grain. We selected a palette of colours that subtly complements the lacquered front panels.
