DS N°7

After inaugurating  the Electra 3D by Focal system on the DS N°8, Focal is now putting its name to the immersive system on the DS N°7, the new-generation premium SUV.


Built around 14 speaker drivers and a 690-W amplifier, the sound architecture transforms the interior into a three-dimensional listening space that is both precise and enveloping.

IMMERSIVE 3D SOUND

Focal has brought together the key foundations for quality sound and an immersive experience: a strategic choice of location for each speaker drivers, an optimised interior structure and exclusive technologies offering high-quality sound reproduction.  


At the heart of the hi-fi system are the 3D tweeters. They are positioned in the front part of the roof, along with surround speakers placed in the parcel shelf supports: the listening experience is worthy of a live concert. The experience is enhanced by sound spatialisation that puts passengers at the heart of the music.

The 14 speaker drivers are capable of reproducing the entire audio spectrum, from ultra-low to ultra-high, and of absorbing the high-power output from the Class D amplifier to faithfully reproduce music in all its dynamic range.

FOCAL EXPERTISE

Focal and DS have thought of every detail. Audio sources are temporally aligned at ear level using advanced digital signal processing: all the sounds reach you at the same time. The result is a holographic audio image, a highly consistent system and supreme precision. 


Focal's expertise joins forces with DS N°7's technological approach: DS IRIS SYSTEM 2.0, an interface incorporating hi-fi sound and high-performance connected services, carefully designed lighting and high-density seats for comfort in tune with acoustic comfort.

ELECTRA 3D BY FOCAL® IN DETAIL


The hi-fi system features 14 speaker drivers with exclusive technologies:

 

  • 1 Polyglass midrange center speaker (30 W) with high excursion, delivering voices with remarkable clarity, significantly enhancing the sound image.

 

  • 4 inverted dome tweeters (4 x 15 W) made of aluminum/magnesium, a technology that provides extremely fine treble, controlled directivity, and low distortion.

 

  • 2 TAM 3D tweeters (2 x 15 W) with extended response, offering unparalleled immersion and great versatility of use.

 

  • 2 surround speakers (2 x 20 W) that amplify emotions and sensations.

 

  • 2 high-excursion woofers in the front doors and 2 compact woofers in the rear doors. Their Polyglass membranes deliver an exemplary frequency response in terms of linearity.


  • A compact elliptical subwoofer (3 x 50 W) positioned in the trunk, integrating Power Flower™ technology, ensuring stable and powerful bass.

 

  • 690 watts of amplification using boosted Class D technology, combining high power/consumption efficiency, very low distortion, and low energy consumption.


CUSTOMISABLE SETTINGS, ACOUSTIC TREATMENT

The Electra 3D by Focal hi-fi system offers several sound modes and settings: All Passengers for balanced listening in all seats; Front Optimised for a front-centred soundstage; three 3D sound intensities: Light, Immersive, Intense; adjustments for the surround speakers and subwoofer.

The DS N°7 also benefits from high-quality acoustic treatment: laminated windows, sound-absorbing materials and an internal architecture that creates a precise soundstage. This silent ambiance provides the perfect foundation for the Electra 3D by Focal system to show off all its richness.


FOCAL TECHNOLOGIES


TAM 3D TWEETER


For an enveloping, immersive experience, a TAM 3D tweeter has been developed. Capable of reproducing a wide bandwith (from 800 Hz to 20 KHz), it offers remarkable performance, including exceptional roll-offs, given its small size.


Elevated sound ambience, optimized immersion and flexibility of use thanks to a choice of settings - Light, Immersive, Intense - characterize this treble loudspeaker.



HIGH EXCURSION MIDRANGE


Ideal for reproducing the human voice, improving and enhancing the sound image considerably, this midrange driver has been designed to operate from 200 Hz and take full advantage of the 30 watts of power available. An exceptionally high diaphragm displacement for a loudspeaker of this size, and a neodymium motor, guarantee great stability and acoustic power.



POLYGLASS MEMBRANE


This exclusive Focal technology is used not only on the 63.5 mm center channel in the dashboard, but also on the 4 152 mm woofers in the vehicle doors.


Thanks to the application of fine glass microbeads to a cellulose pulp membrane, the Polyglass membrane combines the excellent damping of paper with the rigidity of glass.


A compromise between mass, rigidity and damping, with a frequency response curve of exemplary linearity for high-definition sound reproduction.



POWER FLOWER™


The system embeds a 20 cm Power Flower™ subwoofer positioned in the vehicle's frame structure, behind the trunk side trim.


Directly inherited from the technologies of Utopia's iconic loudspeakers, the Power Flower™ replaces the simple ferrite usually used on loudspeakers and is the source of a powerful magnetic flux.


The result: stable, healthy bass reproduction down to extreme sound pressure levels.



INVERTED DOME TWEETERS

The system is equipped with four aluminum inverted dome tweeters positioned in the rear-view mirror and rear door panels.


This technology, patented by Focal for over 35 years, guarantees precise, detailed treble reproduction thanks to its omnidirectional diffusion and light weight.


The Poron surround suspension, derived from the tweeters of the emblematic Utopia line, is very light, for enhanced sensitivity. What's more, its flexibility allows the loudspeakers to be used at lower frequencies. Placed under the aluminum dome, it does not interfere with the signal emitted by the latter, and produces no distortion. The inverted dome shape offers controlled directionality.
