Polyglass membrane
Well-defined mids
The cone, the centerpiece of a loudspeaker, is at the heart of our acoustic engineers' research. Focal's exclusive Polyglass technology involves applying fine glass microbeads to a cellulose pulp cone. This process combines the excellent damping of paper with the rigidity of glass. The rigidity index is almost 10 times higher than that of polypropylene. Adjusting the mass-rigidity-damping ratio results in a remarkable linearity of the frequency response curve, right from the cone design stage. This innovation also significantly increases definition in the midrange.

Tweeter in al/mg
High-finesse treble
The shape and materials of the cones are essential. For extremely fine treble, our engineers have patented the inverted dome tweeter, a Focal signature. Forming an inverted dome offers the advantage of low directivity and a small-diameter voice coil, making it very lightweight for better acceleration. The materials themselves contribute to bringing together the key points of a good speaker: aluminum increases the rigidity of the dome and reduces distortion, and the addition of magnesium provides excellent damping. The suspension that connects the dome to its support uses a shape-memory material, Poron. This suspension is derived from the famous Utopia tweeter made of Beryllium and reduces distortion by three between 2000 Hz and 3000 Hz, the area of very high ear sensitivity.
